STORIES BY STUDENTS
HOW IT WORKS
PARI in the classroom
We work with schools and colleges to bring stories of rural India into the classroom and curriculum. Our stories cut across subjects and bring alive textbooks concepts. In an Economics’ class, poverty is no longer a number when told through a PARI story – it is the life of a daily wage labourer who lives meal to meal, migrates through the year, and cannot afford school fees for his/her children who have been left at home. We hope to give students the tools and information to question the world around them, and to think critically beyond their textbooks; to be curious and empathetic.
Project work is an intrinsic part of all curricula. Find out how you can design projects which fit curriculum and get students to explore rural issues, creating living knowledge on their field trips. Reporting for a global audience will raise the quality of their work besides being a powerful source of learning.
Even the driest topics come alive when we can weave a story around them. Use our vast resource of stories, photos, films and research reports to put a face to whatever you are teaching – from irrigation to pollution, poverty to unsustainable livelihoods – PARI has the voices of people on the ground
We believe in the power of storytelling and our website is a treasure trove of stories that you can curate into texts or supplementary readers to suit your requirements. Our easily downloadable and free-to-use material can seamlessly support your curriculum.
If you are a principal, dean or senior educator and would like to sensitise your teachers to rural issues and how to use PARI as a resource for teaching, do get in touch with us. Our learning material is interdisciplinary and addresses a wide range of pedagogical requirements.
